Nightmare from Namco's Soul Calibur 2. (hence the red hair ) It actually feels kinda strange to draw fanart, I generally prefer drawing my own characters, or those of people I know, or at least who I know are going to see it. ^_~ Guess it makes a nice change, although if this picture gets way more attention than anything else I've ever done, I am going to cry.
I drew this for the art comp at AVcon '03, in fact being my normal disorganised self I ended up spending the whole of Thursday making the picture (the con was on the weekend) and spent friday trying to find someone to print it out at A3 size for me. x_x very stressful, both the picture making, and the finding someone to print it part.
I sketched and brush inked the linework on A3 cartridge paper, then scanned it in and cel shaded it in Photoshop 5.5 . I tried a few tricks to add the patchy skin colour, and the rust or fine blood spray on the armour, I think it worked out well ^_^ The background is suitably generic, but I just wanted something to set the mood without detracting from it. No tablet or filter work (other than Gaussian blur for tweaking the background) on this one, just a lot of selections and some layer intersection tricks.
And it got first place in the gameart category! *^_^*
Holy Crap Tim this awesome! The detail is just outstanding and I love that weapon!!! The armor is so well done, and the whole feel of the piece is great! I also love the red glow from his eye there. very cool Keep up the amazing artwork my friend! hehe ^.^
Congrats on the 1st place. Like I said before to you, and will repeat, this pic is awesome. It's good to finally be able to look at it clearly. They put it too low to the ground to see it at the Con...y'know. When those DDR-nuts weren't crowding around the art comp.
Not that I'm bitter or anything.
Questions! Where did you get it printed? I might have need of getting lineart printed for colouring soon, so it would be cool to have a place to start at. And how much did that cost you?
Um, yeah. I was hoping you would post this soon so I could it to make up for my lack of voting at the con. I'm the guy you were sitting with at the end of the night on Sunday, btw, with ~kimichan. Just so you know
Anyway. Summary = Great pic, can't say anything bad about it. Makes me wanna get my hands on a Dream Cast so I can return to the glory of Soul Calibur. Finally, congrats yet again. It totally deserved to win.
